Garage
doors not closing is a common frustration for many homeowners. You just parked
the car, put away the lawn mower, or grabbed your golf club and tried to close
the door. To your surprise, the door will not close. Now, what do you do? Everything
appears to be normal. There are many potential suspects that can be causing
this issue for you and your door. They include the following:
- Misaligned Sensors: There are two sensors at the
base of your garage door that must be aligned perfectly to function. It is
common for them to become misaligned because they get bumped by a car tire,
lawn mower, or foot while passing by. Check to make sure they are still aligned
with each other.
- Object Blocking the Sensor: Sensors are designed
for safety. They detect if someone or something is under the garage door. If
there is, it interrupts the beam between the sensors and won’t allow the door
to close.
- Debris in Roller Tracks: Your roller tracks are
what help guide your garage door up and down. It keeps it in place and moving
in a controlled, smooth motion. If debris such as snow and dirt gets trapped in
the tracks, the rollers will not be able to move past it. Thus, not allowing
your door to close
- Dead Remote: Pressing your garage door remote
and the door isn’t closing? Your remote batteries are probably dead. Replace
your remote batteries and try to close the door again. Your remote may also be
out of range of the garage door opener. Try to get closer if you can.
